2008 MegaHurts Video – Hood to Coast
Posted by Chris Noland in TheNolands on August 9, 2011
Only a few more weeks until Hood to Coast 2011, amazing that I have not done this since 2008 seems like just yesterday. Pushing the training still to be able to perform at the required pace.
I am joining the Team MegaHurts again for my 4th run, but think it is the 11 or 12th for the team.
Here is a little video we pulled together at the end of 2008.
See you on the beach
Still a X team, just another franchise

So a few of you may have looking at Linkedin or Plaxo and thought “did I see Chris’s information update recently, that seems strange”. It is true after nearly 15 years at Tektronix I decided it was time for a change. Stacey has given me a hard time for a while as she thought I was going to retire at Tek. When we got married the grooms cake had a picture of Tektronix as I guess my work was/is my life. We even took a picture in front of one of my customers at the time.
My time at Tektronix as a blast and will miss many of my friends and colleagues that I have made over the years, Stacey was sick of all of the SIU stories she hears and now maybe they can be replaced by tek stories.
So what is next for me? I joined Exfo to lead their wireless strategy development and help them address the needs of wireless operators. This is a great opportunity to lead a team and help them build a strategic direction and build a plan to ensure we have the tools to be successful.
So at least I am keeping the X in the company name so there is some consistency 8-)
What does EXFO do you ask? For those going to CTIA this week please stop by the EXFO booth (6664) and check out our stuff and we can catch up. We have some exciting stuff that is going to help determine the quality of the backhaul to the cell site and ensure operators are getting the bandwidth and service quality they need. For my other friends that are not going to the show drop me a line.
Richardson Corporate Challenge 5K
Posted by Chris in TheNolands on September 20, 2009
The Richardson corporate challenge was today and Stacey actually joined the Tek Team. The weather was still a bit warm & humid for me, but still pulled in an OK time of 20:15, it was 26th over all with the winner finishing at an amazing 17:35 (and he is over 40) Stacey really sucked it up and pushed it to a 34:25 time, next year she is targeting under 30 minutes (she does not know yet) .
The rest of the Tektronix team did really well. The men’s side of the team changed a lot as David left the company and Chris Ulrich was traveling, we were fortunate to have Holger push it a bit faster and a few new recruits to the team added some speed.
The women’s side did exceptionally well with Fiona blazing it in for a silver in her age group at 20:47. Since Ulrich bailed on us this year he sent his wife to keep the name alive in the standings and she finished second for the Tektronix women at 27:23. Anamika wanted to show sustaining does more than engineering and pushed it to a great time of 33:44, beating her 2008 time of 35:01.
Part of the group stuck around for a good picture.
Next year we expect to have a larger team (hint, hint to readers) and need to find a way to get some the executives to run as 3.1 miles is a piece of cake.
HTC 2008

Hood to Coast 2008 was another exciting time for the Tektronix Team MegaHurts. The team finished almost as fast as 2007 with a bunch of new people… but unfortunately the rest of the field was a lot faster and we placed only 31st out of 147 teams in 25:49:30. The first team “Bowerman AC” finished in 16:58:30, which averaging 5:10 per mile is…smoking fast. I could not even roll down the hill that fast! Van 2 did a little over 99 miles in about 12 hours
The Van 2 experience was fun as usual, sticking 4 engineers, 1 IT guy and one VP of marketing in a van for over 24 hours and you get to learn all sorts of weird stuff. As Stacey always tells me…Engineer’s are Born, Not Made…we may all have the Knack. This explains Chris Ulrich’s love of sticky hands… but so many quirks… so little time.
The race was a blast as we all helped push each other a little harder on each run, yes there were a few times that a walk break was in order, but you could not let down the team. Gary Shultz really turned it on, we think it was because his VP (Martyn) was telling him it was his level 1 PD and his performance would be noted in his sub year RMS…hmmm. Good thing Lyn Cantor is not a runner.
The views on the course were filled with beautiful vistas of the mountains and extremely strange team themes. This was a personal best for me, in 2005 I averaged a 7:23 pace, 2007 7:37 pace and 2008 was 7:22. Looks like I need to do a lot more speed workouts if I want to get a 5:10 pace. Now that the race is over, time to start planning for 2009.
Remember if you are not sure if you are running or jogging… just go faster!

The planning process is always…fun. Just as I bang my head on the wall a bit… a friend shared this with me.
Enjoy share and please pass it on
Funny because it is so true
