2008 MegaHurts Video – Hood to Coast

Only a few more weeks until Hood to Coast 2011, amazing that I have not done this since 2008 seems like just yesterday.  Pushing the training still to be able to perform at the required pace.

I am joining the Team MegaHurts again for my 4th run, but think it is the 11 or 12th for the team.

Here is a little video we pulled together at the end of 2008.

See you on the beach

Running with Water – Going the Distance

did my first “test run” today with a new way to carry water.  For those up north they might think this is unnecessary but when it is 85 degrees and 60-70% humidity at 5 am… water is necessary for any runs of good length.  The water sloshed around a bit but think I can get used to it on some longer runs, on the shorter and faster runs I think I can go with it 1/2 full and still have plenty.

camelBak 2011 XCT

I typically run with a water belt with 4 small bottles on my long runs but it does not seem to be enough plus it has been cutting into my sides…some like to run with bottles in their hands but I just have never been able to stand that for long as my hands get too sweaty.   I always thought the bikers have an unfair advantage as they can have tons of water with them and us runners could not… seems they finally figured out how to make a pack that does not completely annoy you while running.   As for getting more sweaty with it…at the point it is pouring off me I don’t think this made it any worse.

Should get some good use over the next few months as I try to get up to 50+ miles a week for the white rock.

If anyone has any experience with these please let me know any tips / tricks with these.   There is another one that I almost purchased that carries the water lower and seems cool as it may slosh around less.

Maybe now I can carry a small towel and can jump in for a swim on the Sunday trail run with @Marc Swinney

Baseball Game – Rock Hounds at the Dodgers

Today was a great game against the Rock Hounds.  This was the 2nd game of the season.  The Dodgers are really starting to pull together some good plays.   Nathanial was great as the pitcher and got some good tosses to Nicolas to get a few outs.

The rest of the team is slowly starting to click and get the ball to the right place.  It is good to see the team start to work together, there are still the occasional lapses when everyone runs across the field or lays down to pick up a ball.

Andrew had a few good plays and seems to have good form with his swing but I need to spend some more time pitching to him and doing some soft toss drills.  He seems to be having fun at the games and enjoying crushing the ball when he can and tearing down the baseline.

Richardson Corporate Challenge 5K

The Richardson corporate challenge was today and Stacey actually joined the Tek Team.  The weather was still a bit warm & humid for me, but still pulled in an OK time of 20:15, it was 26th over all with the winner finishing at an amazing 17:35 (and he is over 40)  Stacey really sucked it up and pushed it to a 34:25 time, next year she is targeting under 30 minutes (she does not know yet) .

The rest of the Tektronix team did really well.  The men’s side of the team changed a lot as David left the company and Chris Ulrich was traveling, we were fortunate to have Holger push it a bit faster and a few new recruits to the team added some speed.

The women’s side did exceptionally well with Fiona blazing it in for a silver in her age group at 20:47.  Since Ulrich bailed on us this year he sent his wife to keep the name alive in the standings and she finished second for the Tektronix women at 27:23.  Anamika wanted to show sustaining does more than engineering and pushed it to a great time of 33:44, beating her 2008 time of 35:01.

Part of the group stuck around for a good picture.

Next year we expect to have a larger team (hint, hint to readers) and need to find a way to get some the executives to run as 3.1 miles is a piece of cake.

Run fast, think later.

Tee Ball – Mets at Dodgers

Todays game on October 2, 2008 was against the Mets.

The batting look a strange turn when Korben decided to swing his bat both ways and connecting on the swing back. The other kids decided that look a lot of fun and also tried the new swinging style, luckily Coach Marc was able to help out the team and get them hitting in the correct direction

Andrew was is normal fast self and was ripping up the bases

Blade decided to do some dancing on 1st base as he waited for the next hitter. I think he has a future in a yet to be named reality TV series.

Andrew had one of this friends from school on the Mets, as always he is glad to see his friends.
